JOHN Brain has revealed he has no regrets about the selection policy against Rotherham last Saturday.

The Sixways director of rugby was desperately disappointed with the 21-9 defeat to the champions which killed off another promotion bid.

However, he believes the manner of the performance fully vindicated his selection.

Brain left Tom Richardson out of the 22 for the big one but, after a first-half injury to Nnamdi Ezulike, many thought the winger would have been the ideal replacement.

In the end chances came to substitute James Ogilvie-Bull who didn't quite have the pace to finish off Worcester's opportunities.

Brain, though, remains defiant in the face of such criticism.

"We could have put Tom in the 22 but initially Hugo Southwell was on the bench until he had to pull out with a hamstring injury," he said.

"Hugo was there to cover Nnamdi. But then we included James Ogilvie-Bull because we thought his size and presence against Rotherham would be better suited than Tom.

"On the day, though, James didn't have a good game.

"I don't think I would do it differently if I had the chance again."

Worcester play Birminghham Solihull at Sixways tomorrow (3pm).
