AFTER reading N Taylor's letter (You Say, Monday, April 14) the words "rights" and "responsibilities" immediately came to mind.
Unlike some places in the world, we are all fortunate enough to have the right to vote in elections.
Sadly, however, it seems that while a good number of us still remember this fact, many have completely forgotten that rights come attached to responsibilities.
In the case of democracy, I have always believed that responsibility extends far beyond just using our vote at a General or Local Elections but that it also extends to making our representatives constantly aware of our views.
By not doing so we have, over the years, allowed politicians to impose their views, opinions and interpretation of the facts upon us thus ceding more and more power to the centre.
