FORMER boy soprano superstar Aled Jones, looks set to perform at Wyvern FM's Classical Picnic & Proms concert, if councillors give the concert the go-ahead.
The Welsh singer, who shot to fame with the record We're Walking In the Air from classic animated feature The Snowman in 1985, is set to take to the stage for the show at New Road on Sunday, June 1.
The event, supported by Wyvern FM's sister station, Classic FM, will be presented by Aled, who is now Classic FM's Sunday morning presenter and a regular presenter of BBC's Songs of Praise.
However, there were complaints about noise from a pop music event held at the same venue last year and councillors from the licensing committee will discuss, on Wednesday, whether the event should be given the go-ahead.
They have decided the application for Wyvern FM's public entertainment licence should be heard in public and Simon Monk, Wyvern FM's programme controller, claimed the radio station had nothing to fear from the meeting.
"We have seen the council, and they have said this is standard procedure," he said.
"They have said there is nothing for us to worry about. They have said they are very happy about the concert."
This classical music extravaganza will be held at Worcestershire County Cricket Club the day after the station's XS 2003 pop concert, as part of Wyvern FM's two-day music festival.
Soprano Sarah Ryan is also due to be at the concert for the second year running, as will last year's conductor Jae Alexander. They will be joined by the English National Orchestra.
Pop bands including Atomic Kitten and boy band Busted will perform the day before and around 15,000 fans are expected to turn out.
"The Classical Picnic & Proms concert is fantastic," said Mr Monk
"It's a great opportunity to come along with a group of friends, bring a picnic, sit back relax and enjoy some amazing music and an awesome fire display."
