WALKERS across Worc-estershire have been warned to watch out for snakes enjoying the hot weather.
The warning comes after a woman was bitten by an adder on the Cotswold footpath.
The victim, who has not been named, was walking on Leckhampton Hill, Cheltenham on Thursday when the incident happened.
She was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital where she is expected to be detained for about two days.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Police warned walkers across the region to take care.
"If a person is bitten they should be reassured, kept calm and transferred to hospital, usually by ambulance.
"The bite should not be touched and the affected limb kept immobile.
"Do not suck the wound, do not cut the wound and do not apply bandages or tourniquets," he said.
Adder bites are painful but rarely prove to be fatal.
