NEARLY 50 boys and girls in Kempsey have been honing their soccer skills this week at a holiday coaching course run by a former professional footballer.
John Hodge, of St Peter's, Worcester, started his career with Manchester United and played for numerous clubs including Exeter City, Swansea and Walsall, before retiring last year.
Now he runs Grass Roots Soccer Skills, providing after-school football clubs, holiday courses and Saturday morning football development sessions for youngsters aged from six to 15, with qualified coaches.
This week's Kempsey course included 48 boys and girls and there will be another 30 on next week's course at the Plovers Rise playing field.
"There is talent everywhere. We see a lot of talented young kids on our courses," said Mr Hodge.
"Parents really appreciate what we are doing, because their children are getting the opportunity to have fun and polish their skills in a positive environment."
