CRAIG Chalmers has ad-mitted that a place in Worcester's side for to-day's National One en-counter with Birmingham & Solihull has come a little late for his liking.

The former British Lions fly half takes his place in the team for possibly the final time at Sixways with increasing uncertainty surround promotion and relegation to the Premiership for this season and next.

After limited opportunities this year, Chalmers looks likely to leave Sixways in the summer and so today's home clash could represent a swansong for the record-breaking Scot. But even though he is happy to be playing today, he would have much rather have played a part in Saturday's showdown with Rother-ham.

"It's come seven days too late for me," he said.

"The last few months have been very frustrating for me because I've been fit to play. It will be nice to get out there in front of the supporters because they've been very good to me.

"It's just a pity I wasn't involved against Rotherham but the coaches have to make a decision and you have to accept them."

Meanwhile, John Brain has told today's players that they are playing for their futures.

With so much up in the air, until a definite answer from the RFU regarding the on-going inquiry into Rotherham's off-the-field dealings is resolved, the Sixways director of rugby has told his players to give everything they have in the final two games of the season.

Openside flanker Richard Nias comes in for today's match and he is one of a number of players who face a very uncertain future.

"Richard played last against London Welsh and then Exeter in the cup," said Brain.

"He was unfortunate that he was one of a number of players who didn't really do themselves justice against Exeter. So Gavin Pfister has been our number one openside since then.

"I'm sure that Richard Nias, like many players, will be anxious to make a statement about where he sees his future. They can do that by performing well in these last two games. It is an opportunity.

"As professionals, we are paid to do a job and we will do in our final two games."
