WELL said, Jan Sokolowski. I have been writing about Worcester's stark raving mad transport strategy for years.

I have demonstrated beyond a shadow of doubt that park-and-rides is an act of civic lunacy. In all that time, across all those letters not one council official or one councillor has dared challenge the arguments I have put forward against spending taxpayers' money on park-and-ride.

Each park-and-ride scheme costs several million pounds in public taxes, and lumbers the taxpayers of Worcester City Council with £250,000 in annual losses.

And all each park-and-ride scheme does is to confine Worcester's 300,000 vehicle movements each day to a much reduced carriageway. That is why the traffic jams in Barbourne are even worse than they were.

But you just cannot tell our city council, or our county council. Some bureaucrat has said "thou shall have park-and-ride" and it will be shoved down our collective throats regardless, despite its growing annual losses on a county council that has just racked up the rates by 13 per cent.

We do not have a traffic management strategy because those in charge haven't a clue what they are talking about.

N TAYLOR,

Worcester.
