BROMSGROVE Rovers continued to falter in their attempts to improve on last season's performance as they were beaten 1-0 by Gresley Rovers in the Dr Martens League Western Division.
A goal after just two minutes was enough to send Rovers back with no points to extend their winless streak to four games.
Greens were struck a pre-match blow with the news that striker Peter Sutton had transferred to Halesowen Town and his replacement, Scott Gennard, tried hard without looking menacing.
Manager George Rooney also gave a debut to Michael Jameson, on a work experience placement from Birmingham City, but he struggled to get things moving in midfield.
Gresley clinched things when ex-Hereford United defender Steve Devine, back with Gresley after a spell at Hednesford, put the impressive Simon Tucker clear. He threaded the ball through to Richard Wardle who beat Nore Gabbidon Comfortably from close range.
Rovers offered little to raise a cheer and waited until the 72nd minute to test debutant keeper Richard Selby who saved a Richard Burgess half-volley.
With the exception of Craig Poutney, Greens never looked capable of getting an equaliser and Rooney must wonder what he can do next as his charges slipped closer to the relegation zone.
