AFTER a season of twists and turns it was fitting that Stourport Swifts' Dr Martens Western Division campaign finished on a high with a 5-2 victory over fresh-faced Bilston Town.

The result left Swifts eighth at the end of their inaugural season - an excellent outcome for a squad kept together on a shoestring by manager Tim Langford.

But his work is set to continue during the summer recess as he tries to keep his side together amid speculation linking players with moves elsewhere.

Skipper Asa Charlton is believed to be a target of Western Division champions Halesowen Town who also appear keen on signing the impressive young winger Alex Cowley after the teenager impressed on his loan spell with the Yeltz.

Youngster Adrian Hipkins donned the goalkeeper's jersey in the absence of the suspended Rob Clarke on Saturday.

And, together with defender Sean Wright, Hipkins showed Stourport's mix of youth and experience could have a promising future.

But it was one of Bilston's youngsters, Mark Lewis, who opened the scoring on 19 minutes, the rangy striker placing his shot beyond the reach of Hipkins.

This was cancelled out on 34 minutes when Richard Gardner turned home a Charlton free-kick before two goals in three minutes from Adam and Tim Nicholls appeared to swing the game in Stourport's favour.

But the visitors hit back with the goal of the game as Lee Hodgson-Bridge thundered home a first time volley from 18-yards following good work by another of Bilston's bright young things Sean Williams.

The tireless Simon Marsh struck a fourth for Stourport on 78 minutes, lobbing over the advancing Steve Corbett.

And Charlton added his name to the scoresheet three minutes later with a glorious 20-yard volley.

The final goal meant Swifts end a good first season at Dr Martens level with a positive goal difference.
