BROMSGROVE Rovers are hoping their shock FA Umbro Trophy successes will help them escape from relegation danger.

Rovers, third from bottom in the Dr Martens League Western Division, stunned Lancaster City, currently sixth in the Unibond League Premier Division, 1-0 in the second round on Saturday thanks to a goal from recent signing Shaun Bedward.

It was a remarkable result for the managerless club battling financial and takeover problems.

Rovers beat another Unibond Premier side Droylsden in the previous round, and chief executive Pat Bannister said: "It is nice to be in a position where something is going right for the club.

"It appears that we seem to have the cups right -- we now need to put the league right."

Bannister was not at Saturday's game but said: "I have heard quite a few good reports -- it appeared to go to plan.

"There is definitely a nice, confident mood in the camp. We need to take it forward to the league games to pull us out of danger."

Rovers' next three games are against two sides in the top four -- Hinckley (twice) and Mangotsfield -- but Bannister added: "The mood the lads are in, we are not frightened to face anyone."

Meanwhile. Worcester City boss John Barton believes their delayed Trophy tie at Hendon may not be settled until next week.

Their trip to the Ryman League Premier Division side will now be on Wednesday (ko 7.45) after a waterlogged pitch forced a postponement on Saturday.

But more rain is forecast this week, and Barton said: "We had a strong suspicion it would fall foul of the weather on Saturday, and I am not too optimistic for this week either."

Evesham United's postponed tie at Cinderford Town will be played tomorrow with the draw for the third round, including the Nationwide Conference clubs, due to be made later today.
