Redditch Utd 1 Sutton Coldfield Tn 0
A NARROW win over mid-table Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday meant Reds tasted back-to-back league wins for the first time this season, writes Matt Smith.
Matty Hall settled the encounter with a tap-in from two yards six minutes after the interval after Redditch forward Peter Sutton latched on to a mistake by Sutton stopper Justin Bray.
Before the break United never looked likely to score and it was the visitors who had the best chances to take the lead.
Sutton had their best chance on 15 minutes when a great twisting run down the left by Leon Mitchell ended with him looping a cross to strike partner Ian Bennett. His shot was charged down and Nathan Moran's sweet follow-up looked to be heading for the top corner until home keeper Neil Olden pulled of a sublime save.
Redditch's best opportunity of the half came on 30 minutes when Hall's cross found skipper Lee Knight whose flicked header just shaved the Sutton upright.
Just before the break it was the visitors' turn to hit the woodwork when Nigel Brown's corner found Steve Farmer at the back post but his header struck the crossbar.
After Hall's goal, the visitors' impetus visibly vanished although they did have one final chance 15 minutes from time when another Brown corner was curled out to former Redditch defender Farmer whose bullet header from the edge of the United area was well held by Olden.
