Redditch United 0 RC Warwick 0
DEFINITELY one to be watched on Ceefax, this dourest of goalless draws would have been seen as a point further from the bottom but an unconfirmed rumour had Swindon Supermarine beating Solihull and could mean misery for both managers.
Redditch flattered to deceive early on with Warwick keeper Craig Dutton called into action three times in the first 21 minutes to deny Matty Southwick twice on his home debut and an out-of-sorts Lee Booth.
But after that the game died a slow, horrible death with both sides resorting to aimless punts and sloppy passing and unable to threaten at either end.
Warwick's only contribution to a turgid encounter came in the 93rd minute when Neil Olden had to block a downward header from sub Mick Upton at the far post.
Redditch could point to a looping Nigel Niblett header on 43 minutes and a low Peter Sutton drive which skimmed wide of the far post on 70 minutes.
But the game was best summed up 13 minutes from time when a sloppy pass from Niblett in his own half gifted possession to Warwick forward Kim Green who responded by threading a ball staright back to the grateful Reds stopper.
Match referee Mr Dorr had the right idea, pulling out with injury before kick-off, but then proceeded to watch the spectacle.
The highlights included a booking for Green.
Reds wide man Stuart Grosvenor could be doubtful for the visit of Weston on Saturday after a clash of heads left him sporting a cartoon style bandaged head and a bout of concussion.
He should be grateful he had an excuse to leave early.
For Redditch it is another point towards safety and if that is the best Warwick can offer neither United - or Swindon Supermarine - should worry too much.
