RESERVE wicketkeeper James Pipe will make his first appearance of the season for Worcestershire in their four-day match against India which opens at New Road tomorrow.
The 24-year-old has been unable to force his way into the side this term because of the fine form of injury-free Steve Rhodes.
The County, however, have decided that this week's game provides an ideal opportunity for them to hand Rhodes a well earned break and give Pipe the chance to gain further valuable experience.
Worcestershire made a similar decision last year when Pipe took over from Rhodes for the three-day match against the Australians who triumphed by 360 runs.
The County have selected a strong side which includes opener Stephen Peters for his first first-class appearance since breaking his thumb in a Frizzell County Championship Division Two game against his former club Essex at New Road in mid-May.
Since then he has played in four limited-over matches.
Worcestershire's Director of Cricket Tom Moody said: "It's an important game for us. It's a great opportunity to play an international side and for the players to put in a good performance.
"There are a few in our side who want to put in good performances that will make a few people look at them. From a team point of view it's important for us to maintain what has been a good momentum all year.
"India are an excellent team. They have some high class players and will be wanting to bounce back from their defeat at Lord's. It's a great thing for our club and side to have a team like India coming here to New Road."
New Road Chief Executive Mark Newton is hoping for bumper attendances on all four days.
He said: "The fact the game is being played during the school holidays has enabled us to promote the game to young people through a reduced admission charge of just £2 for kids 16 and under."
India have yet to name their side but will be anxious to get a number of their players into form following the first Test against England which ended in a 170-run defeat at Lord's yesterday.
