I WRITE with reference to the article on the play area at the junction of Hollywood Lane and Wythwood Road (Advertiser, April 2).
I can completely understand Wythall Parish Council's decision to withdraw the lease on the children's play area.
Over the last two years, it has been vandalised time and time again. The play equipment intended for young children has been completely destroyed on several occasions.
The surrounding fence has been kicked down at least twice this year.
These mindless youths seem to get great pleasure in causing destruction.
They leave their alcohol bottles and cans and all variety of litter, including condoms. This is not a very nice environment for young children.
Wythall is no different from most other areas. We have a distinct lack of police.
This problem of mindless vandalism is all over Wythall. Fences have been broken, gardens vandalised, bottles smashed and litter spread like confetti over the parish.
Because of the lack of police coverage, I challenge parents to be more responsible for their children's actions.
Do you know what your child is doing tonight?
Where are they obtaining large amounts of alcohol to consume before going on the rampage? Many are underage drinkers.
Please be more responsible parents and help to stop the loutish behaviour that is becoming so prominent in the Wythall area.
It affects so many peoples' well-being. Please try harder.
M Field
Wythall
