THE outstanding feature of the new road markings is the dramatic reduction in the capacity of the junctions caused by restricting the exits to one lane, apparently in the interest of safety.
Two-lane exits from main road roundabouts have been a feature of our national road system for more than 50 years and guidance on their use is included in the Highway Code.
I have heard it said the county highways authority thinks Redditch has too much road space. Is this a prelude to further reductions such as that carried out recently on Woodrow Drive near the hospital? Perhaps the idea is to encourage us to drive along the unobstructed acres of tarmac to the west of Worcester when we are forced to visit the new "centre of excellence" rather than our local hospital.
This dumbing-down of the roads regardless of inconvenience and cost to users is surely unacceptable.
