For the third successive week Alcester faced Ye Olde Knowle, this time in the Yardley Wood Alliance Cup on the neutral Stoke Prior green.
Although only producing three winners out of eight, Alcester managed to scrape into the next round by a mere four shots.
The win was set up by a brilliant 21-2 win from acting captain Gordon Lycett, with Brenda Williams giving excellent support with a 21-11 success.
Ken Harvey was Alcester's other winner with a 21-19.
But Alcester's five losers did much to assist in the overall success by tenaciously avoiding any heavy defeats.
In the Northfield League Alcester travelled to KNES, keen to follow up their good victory of the previous week.
John Alderson and Chris Hollins got the team off to a real flyer with 21-6 and 21-10 respectively and by the halfway stage Alcester looked like creating an upset as they were 12 shots ahead.
But the KNES squad were not to be outdone and, using their small tricky green to their advantage, they turned the screw on Alcester who could only provide one further winner in Ken Harvey 21-18 and eventually went down by a mere four shots.
Their three winners however provided three valuable league points.
The B team were at home, also to KNES B.
Although they could only find two winners in Alf Thompson, 21-17, and skipper Jean Sherrington, 21-17, the rest of the team turned in some spirited performances, especially from the four junior members of the squad.
They eventually went down by 30 shots.
