THE town's Liberal Democrat Party have today launched their manifesto with about a week to go before the May 1 elections.
The manifesto targets six areas; council tax, housing, sport and leisure, the town centre, environment and transport.
Liberal Democrat leader Diane Thomas believes council tax should be scrapped and replaced with a local income tax.
She believes council tax is an outdated, unfair, inefficient and complex way of financing the local services people want.
Mrs Thomas said the Liberal Democrats would challenge the council's 'culture of complacency' on housing service provision.
Under the power of the Liberal Democrats, Mrs Thomas said the closure of the Palace Theatre or Forge Mill Museum would not be entertained.
But Mrs Thomas believes the countryside centre is failing to make any real contribution to the town and should not be kept in council hands unless it can run economically and effectively over the next few years.
The Liberal Democrats are fully supportive of plans to pedestrianise Church Green West and will work towards improving the troubled Redditch Market.
