Five star

RE-MASTERED albums with added material are always a nice little earner for semi-retired or indeed semi-deceased rock bands.

But the re-mastering process is often accused of sucking the soul out of music and vinyl junkies will tut-tut knowingly.

This time, they'll have to think again.

The re-mastering job is excellent, enhancing the nine tracks from the band's original classic album without losing any of the power or grit.

This was The Who's greatest album by far and Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes and political anthem Won't Get Fooled Again demonstrate why.

But new tracks on this package like the excellent alternative versions of Getting In Tune and another Won't Get Fooled Again are also welcome.

Some add-ons like Pure and Easy and Baby Don't You Do It have appeared before though in abridged form.

But fans will be salivating over Disc 2 featuring a 1971 gig in which the band sampled some of their new material in front of an intimate audience at London's Young Vic Theatre.

Sometimes rough around the edges, but always riveting, you get 14 tunes played with typical vitality.

You may have the 1995 re-release of Who's Next already - but re-invest.
