Ludlow Town 1 Causeway United 2-
CAUSEWAY failed to read the script to the end of Ludlow's first Midland Alliance League fixture in the town for two years at their new Corrs Stadium ground.
Instead of conceding the late goal to mark the occasion in style, they scored the winner in the 92nd minute to take the gloss off the occasion.
The Town had only themselves to blame at the end of the day as they created plenty of chances but were guilty of some poor finishing in front of goal.
Gareth Horler showed neat footwork after five minutes to beat a number of challenges but then set the tone for the day by firing wide.
He made amends in the 21st minute when he was first to react after keeper Mark Whitehouse had made a good save from a header following a Phil Bates cross, to net the opening goal.
Five minutes before the break and against the run of play Causeway levelled the score when Ian Kirkham slotted home a penalty after one of his colleagues had been brought down inside the area by Craig Ladek.
Ludlow went back on the offensive after the break but failed to turn their superiority into goals.
With time running out and a draw looking the likely outcome, Kirkham gained possession from a weak clearance and his half-volley aided by the swirling wind beat the despairing efforts of the Ludlow defence to finish in the back of the net for the late winner.
