INVESTMENT in security measures for homes and gardens could pay off in the long run, Wyre Forest residents have been told.
Kidderminster Police have issued safety advice, with people being urged to ensure their doors and windows are locked with the onset of lighter nights.
Thieves seeking expensive gardening equipment also target sheds at this time of year.
Police say expensive tools should be locked in steel boxes secured to the floor in garages. Prickly plants can also deter burglars from gardens.
Kidderminster Police crime risk manager PC Andy Hill said: "Spending money on security measures can seem daunting, but it is a good investment that will last a long time and can add to the value of your property."
He urged the use of window locks, deadlocks, visible burglar alarms, "spy holes" in doors and membership of Neighbourhood Watch.
