DOZENS of volunteers braved rain to make the start of the first litter picking event of The Duckworth Trust's Rubbish? Sort It! campaign a big success.
Around 40 adults and children joined the first community collection at King George V playing fields in Worcester.
Despite the poor weather, project manager Mark Driscoll said it was a good turnout, with youngsters and adults making up equal numbers.
"People thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had a good time, said Mark, "The kids loved it.
"We gave them different coloured bags and they collected aluminium cans for recycling."
He said in total they managed to fill up a ten ton skip, which included heavier waste such as old bikes that was collected by wardens earlier in the week.
"It started to rain halfway through but everyone was happy. It did not dampen anyone's spirit", added Mark.
