TWO prison officers are attempting a world-record car push at the end of next month.
The record of 33.7 miles is held by two Texans, but Brian Davies and Jez Mole reckon they can better it in a 24-hour period during the last week in May.
"Nearer the time we shall pick a day when, hopefully, the weather will be good," said 40-year-old Brian, who is based with his 38-year-old colleague at the Long Lartin maximum security prison, at South Littleton, near Evesham.
"We shall go for 24 hours and hope to beat the current record by a considerable margin."
Money they raise from sponsors will go to Wish Upon a Star, a charity which takes terminally ill children on holiday.
They hope to be able to do the push at the Unipart Depot near the prison but, if that is not possible, the route will be round the houses on the housing estate alongside the prison.
"We've been practising with a number of three-mile stints and building up our strength and stamina by sessions in the gym," Brian said.
Brian is no stranger to fund-raising. He has completed the Three Peaks Challenge and also carried a man on his back from Long Lartin to Evesham.
"I like a challenge and, if I think it can be achieved, I'll have a go at it," he added.
