ON Good Friday a service of meditation was held in St John the Evangelist Church, Pauntley. The Rev Dr Peter Newing led the service. On Easter Day the Rev Patricia Phillips was the celebrant and the Bible reader was Eric Solesbury.
A double baptism also took place within this service. This ancient church with its associations with Dick Whittington was full for this major service of the year. It was good to have lots of children present. The ladies had been very busy decorating the church and it looked superb with seasonal flower including the traditional Easter lilies. On departure everyone received an Easter egg. This has been a tradition at Pauntley for a good many years. Next Sunday at 6pm the service is evening prayer with the Rev Dr Peter Newing.
There are still a few tickets left for A pilgrimage to the end of the Earth. This is a presentation of a cycle ride to Santiago de Compestela in Spain. It is to be given by John Read on Wednesday starting at 7.30pm in Pauntley Memorial Hall. Tickets are £5 to include the first glass of wine and nibbles. You are assured of a good evening.
