ST Michael's Hospice is one of 22 voluntary groups in the West Midlands short-listed for the first Queen's Golden Jubilee Award.
The hospice, which provides palliative care for people with terminal illnesses and support for family and friends, is one of 277 groups across the country recognised for their contribution and commitment to the community.
The shortlist was announced by the Home Office minister Lord Filkin.
He said: "This prestigious new award gives well-deserved recognition to some of the hundreds of thousands of voluntary groups across the UK that play such an essential role in our communities."
Up to 200 winners will be announced on June 2.
