THE Malvern Table Tennis League's handicap final was a tense occasion and could have gone either way right up to the final game of the evening.
In the end newcomers Bromyard Logics gained a nine point win over Crackpots C, but there were certainly some alarms along the way. For Crackpots Stan Ginn was on top of his game and gained a narrow victory over Chris Daniels 8-11, 11-2, 12-14, 9-11 and also Derek Craddock 11-9, 11-5, 7-11, 8-11. In the end however, John Hunt's fine form proved decisive particularly in the closing stages of his encounter with Richard Cullis.
At the halfway point of the Secondary Final, Manor Park Express, seemed to have a good chance of overturning the 295 handicap Manor Park Maulers had been given.
In the later stages of the evening the Maulers' Ray Davies and Bill Smith played some fine table tennis and gave a demonstration of the strength of Division Three this season.
It gave Maulers their first trophy since joining the Malvern Table Tennis League, by 28 points.
Both finals were played in a good spirit in front of an appreciative audience at the Civil Service Sports and Social Club.
The Malvern Table Tennis League is grateful for the hospitality received at this venue each year and is indebted to the help given by Dave Backhurst and Dave Huntley.
Scores: Main Competition - Bromyard Logics 409, Crackpots C (95) 400.
Secondary Competition - Manor Park Maulers (295) 472, Manor Park Express 444.
