A WOMAN pedestrian has suffered serious injuries after being crushed against a wall by a bus in Worcester city centre.
Roads were blocked off by police, causing gridlock during last night's rush hour.
The woman was in collision with the First Midland Red bus as it turned off Cathedral Roundabout into College Street.
"The pedestrian became trapped between the wall and the bus," said a police spokesman.
She was believed to have suffered leg injuries, including a fractured femur and a fractured tibia.
The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was released by fire crews using inflatable bags after the 4pm accident and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by land ambulance.
She was comforted by two bystanders who held her up to prevent her from falling beneath the bus.
Police blocked off College Street, Friar Street and Deansway bringing the city centre to a standstill at the height of Friday rush hour. A large crowd of shoppers, workers and children gathered at the scene.
The roads were re-opened shortly after 6.15pm.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Worcester police, on 08457 444888.
