WORCESTERSHIRE'S John Bickerton was tied for 36th place after the second round of Canaries Spanish Open in Tenerife saw him record a 69 to go with his first round 66 to be nine under par.
This left the Droitwich Golf Club member six shots adrift of joint leaders paul casey and Miles Tunnicliffe.
Hereford's David park was one shot behind bickerton after shooting a second round 69 following a 67 on Thursday.
Tunnicliffe would love to win the second tournament of his career. The first came at the Great North Open at Slaley Hall near Newcastle last June when he did not even have a tour card -- and was two weeks after the death of his mother through cancer.
He has not had a top 10 finish since, but he and Casey were two clear overnight of third-placed group Jose Maria Olazabal, Santiago Luna, Dubliner Peter Lawrie and Essex's Simon Khan.
Defending champion Sergio Garcia was seven shots adrift.
