DOG owners are being asked not to dump unwanted pets after a rise in the number of strays during the Easter holidays.
Over three days during the Bank Holiday, five strays were picked up in Wychavon by the district council's dog warden.
"We don't know whether it is because of the hot weather and more dogs going on outings which is responsible for the increase," said dog warden Pip Singleton.
"But it may be that families have new pets, which can be demanding, and are having trouble coping with them.
"In this case, residents can call the council and we will put them in touch with charities which will take dogs off their hands.
"Please don't just dump an unwanted pet."
Dog owners have been asked to provide their pets with collars containing identity disks or have them micro-chipped to reduce the risk of them becoming lost.
For help with your dog or to find out more about micro- chipping call Wychavon's Environmental Health Team on 01386 565249.
