Cinderford Tn 1,
Evesham Utd 3
ACTION man is back! And Wesley Joyce was firing on all cylinders as Tuesday's two-goal salvo provided the Robins with a perfect boost ahead of a busy Easter programme, writes Mervyn Collins.
Western Division leaders Merthyr Tydfil visit Common Road on Saturday, while a 7.45pm kick-off takes United to Stourport Swifts on Easter Monday.
A third game in five days sees Halesowen Town the visitors for the second leg of the Worcestershire Senior Cup final next Wednesday night when Evesham must claw back a two-goal deficit if they are to lift the trophy for the first time.
Joyce's midweek blast and a goal from strike partner Mark Shepherd provided plenty of optimism that Phil Mullen's men can exact revenge for earlier defeats against their trio of holiday opponents.
A far from encouraging start when Daryl Addis headed Cinderford ahead after only two minutes was quickly forgotten once Shepherd had lobbed in United's equaliser and a first goal for more than five hours before half-time.
Two minutes later, Joyce converted a cross from Inderpaul Khela to give the visitors the lead - an advantage they never looked like surrendering.
Had Andy Fisher not performed miracles to keep out Khela's header, the visitors would have pocketed the points five minutes after the restart.
Tim Hart produced an instinctive stop to keep out Scott Griffin's piledriver before Joyce took centre stage.
Shots rained in on Fisher's goal but it was 13 minutes from time before the burly front man found the net after Shepherd's neat pass.
The latter will be missing next Wednesday but the signs are good that United can take Tuesday's improved form into a crucial period.
Skipper Nathan Jukes, missing through work commitments, should be back on Easter parade. And, with Paul Oakey, Nick Heath and substitute Daniel Lennon all showing some nice touches and Jay Powell bravely on show with a head wound plastered, manager Mullen will have taken great heart from Tuesday's triumph.
Saturday's match is being sponsored by Access Traders Ltd and the ball by F & D Monaghan of Alcester.
