RESIDENTS frustrated by people parking outside their homes fear the problem will worsen after hearing of plans for more office blocks near the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Hospital staff and visitors, as well as employees of the offices on the site, have been blamed for parking on residential roads in Warndon Villages.

Almost 100 people attended the annual open meeting of Warndon Parish Council after hearing rumours that more offices were earmarked for the site.

Ian Barnard was one resident who attacked councillors over the rumours .

"This could bring possibly 2,000 new people. I would love you to explain how the situation will get better when you're planning to make it worse," he said.

Mr Barnard called for more imaginative solutions to the crisis, such as using the proposed football ground and B&Q store at Spetchley during the week.

David Wareing, chief executive officer for the city council, neither confirmed nor denied that more offices were planned, and said the football ground plans were far from finalised.

A number of other solutions were offered at the meeting.

John Summers, project director at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, announced that a one-way system was being put in place to free up 50 parking spaces, while turning landscaped areas into parking was set to take the total number of spaces from 1,320 to 1,470.

"This will improve the situation no end," he said.

However county councillor John Buckley and parish council member Andrew Philpott said the hospital had never come up with plans as to how many spaces it actually needed.

"You will not have enough car parking spaces to overcome that problem because you have 300 spaces at the Ronkswood hospital which will have to close one day," said Coun Buckley.

Richard Wigginton, director of environmental services at Worcestershire County Council said plans were in the pipeline for parking restrictions, such as double yellow lines, on Hoskyns Avenue, subject to public consultation

"It is the lesser of two evils," he said.
