SIMON Archer is facing a tough choice ahead of next month's World Championships after clinching yet another gold medal.

The Worcester badminton ace, who will compete in the May 12-18 Birmingham event with mixed doubles partner Kirsteen McEwan, struck gold in the Austrian Open with Donna Kellogg.

The English pair beat Sweden's third seeds Frederik Bergstrom and Johanna Persson 11-6, 5-11, 11-6 in Pressbaum despite it being their first outing together.

With Archer's sights firmly on the Olympics in Athens next year he faces a dilemma of who to partner with the year-long qualifying period set to start on Thursday.

"It will be a tough choice," he said.

Struggle

"I was pleased with the way things went in Austria considering I turned my ankle in the semi-finals but managed to struggle through the final."

The 29-year-old has been looking for a new mixed doubles partner since fellow Olympic bronze med-allist Jo Goode decided to have another child.

The Austrian triumph may have tipped the balance in Kellogg's favour, however.

"We're all looking towards Athens," he added. "I may well go with Donna, but we will have to see how things go in the World Championships."

Olympic bronze and Commonwealth gold med-allist Archer will partner Scotland's Kirsteen McEwan in the worlds.
