A NEW in-house training programme has meant speedier training for specialist nurses on the blood-testing unit at Worcester's hospital.
Seven nurses have received certificates after finishing their course in administering chemotherapy to cancer patients.
They underwent five months of detailed practical and theoretical training on the ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Hilary Morgan, specialist haematology nurse, said administering the treatment was a very skilled role.
"In the past, nurses have had to wait for specialist courses combined with learning over a period on the ward," she said.
"The development of a specific in-house training and development programme has focused training needs and enabled nurses new to the area to gain their competencies quicker."
Nurses were taught to administer chemotherapy and made aware of the health and safety issues involved.
"The nurses have improved awareness, knowledge and skills and enjoy greater job satisfaction, and the patients naturally benefit from the increased efficiency of the service," said Ms Morgan.
