I AM becoming increasingly irritated by the 'debate' about the new-look Sainsbury's roundabout.
When the lines were being applied it did, indeed, cause considerable jamming, particularly considering the coning was not moved back when there was no work in progress.
However, I have noticed no difference to my progress at all now and I live within three to four minutes' walk of the roundabout, therefore I travel around it a great deal.
Neither have I observed any problems on the road when I've walked by it.
The lanes direct cars into the positions they should be taking anyway, with or without written directions.
My manoeuvres are no different now from what they were before.
It seems to me there is a simple aversion to 'being told what to do and where to go'.
There are two lanes on the approach from the fire station - as before - and two from Birmingham direction, as before. What's the problem?
The problem was, and remains, that there are some impatient traffic bullies who travel in any lane of their choosing and then cut across any traffic that impedes their progress.
The main problem with the white lines is the drivers.
Already, the 'walls' represented by the crossed lines are being breached without any regard to other road users.
Only yesterday, my husband found himself in danger of collision from behind as an impatient motorist 'undertook' a learner driver on the crossed lines and then cut up the traffic to get to where he wanted to be.
And last week's Advertiser had the silliest letter of all - a complaint that the 'local' lane from Birmingham A441 directs you to the crematorium. Clearly, that individual has a one-track mind and should take a proper look at the signing - to the Abbey Stadium, Riverside, Forge Mill Museum etc.
For goodness sake, let's have a bit of sanity.
We've become infected by a completely ridiculous mass hysteria, councillors and all.
Yes, it's obviously expensive but it wouldn't be necessary if we all drove as we should, with due consideration for other motorists and the road conditions.
And let's drop it, please!
