I HAVE been in Australia for the past 43 years and have never regretted leaving the old country until recently, when I learned of the death of my younger brother, Alan Brandy.
We were quite close during the war years, being part of a large family living in Kings Norton.
Our father was in the army and there were a few younger kids to take care of.
I can remember many nights spent in the air raid shelter, holding the younger kids to comfort them - he was a good family man, even in those days.
He was a hard worker and helped to support the family when I joined the army.
We had a lot of laughs together in later years and I missed him most of all when I emigrated in 1960.
I would have loved to have said goodbye to him. RIP Our Kid.
