A PART of Southcrest considered a 'no-go' area by residents because of gangs of troublesome youngsters is being targeted in a joint project.
Redditch Council, police and neighbours have joined forces to stamp out the problem, which is blighting people's lives.
Complaints about gangs gathering in an underpass in Foredrift Close being threatening, noisy and damaging property were first highlighted at a neighbourhood group meeting in February.
Mr Patten said some residents thought the only way to solve the problem was to actually close off the subway.
But he said the problem needed to be treated before closing the subway and police officers and the council's youth team would be working with the young people themselves.
Mr Patten said work to open up areas would be carried out so youngsters would be far more visible and less likely to congregate causing trouble.
Work to open up areas of the wood and make it more accessible for police officers will also be carried out.
