WORCESTER Rugby Club's U16 ladies' team beat Widnes 19-10 in the final of the RFUW National Cup at Broadstreet RFC.
Kicking with a strong wind Worcester built up a 12-0 half-time lead with tries from Ruth Clewer and Alice Richardson, the latter converted by Richardson herself.
The second half saw Worcester forced to defend against a brave Widnes side who reduced the deficit to 12-5 before Richardson broke away from her own half and outpaced the Widnes defence to score under the posts before adding the conversion to give them a 19-5 lead.
Although Widnes added a further consolation try, Worcester held on for victory and were presented with the cup by England Ladies coach Geoff Richards.
The game was a curtain raiser for the England senior women's Canada and South Africa tours trial match followed by an U19 international against Wales which saw Worcester's Katy White and Lois Moulding feature prominently.
