SOLIHULL took a big step to completing a league and cup double with another North Midlands Shield giant-killing at the weekend.
After shocking higher league Kings Norton and Selly Oak in earlier rounds, Richard Gamlin's side knocked out Midlands Four high-fliers Old Salts on Saturday to book their place in the final at Stourbridge Rugby Club on Sunday, May 11.
But the Portway-based side had to put up with some intimidation from the holders at their adopted home.
Having beaten three Midlands Four sides in this season's plate, Solihull will have to do it again in the final against an Old Yards side who finished third in Midlands West Four South.
Solihull's match will be held at 1pm with the North Midlands Cup final to follow.
This year's run is the furthest the club have gone in the Shield and Gamlin is hoping to make it four trophies in the three years since the club was founded.
Solihull have won the North Midlands Division Three, two and One titles in successive years and their Shield successes against higher-league sides have raised expectation for their Midlands Four bow next season.
