Alcester were edged out in the final of their annual seven a side tournament at the weekend.

The King's Coughton club battled their way through to their first ever final only to lose out to defending champions Camp Hill.

Alcester piled on the early pressure, backed by the large vociferous home support.

But although the hosts managed to cross twice in the early stages, both efforts were ruled out with play being called back for forward passes.

The reigning champions took the lead midway through the half, but Alcester hit back through a penalty try after persistent infringement by Camp Hill to prevent an Alcester score.

Playing down the slope in the second half, Camp Hill dominated and ran in a further three tries to record a 26-7 win.

After being eliminated in the main competition by eventual winners Camp Hill, the third XV sprang a surprise in reaching the Plate semi-finals before being beaten by eventual winners Birmingham Civil Service.

The three's side defeated Bournville and touring side Old Norvillians, the latter thanks to a sudden death try after the game in normal time ended 19-19.

In the plate final, Civil Service saw off Pershore.

A depleted Alcester Ladies side were beaten 41-10 by unbeaten league leaders Lichfield Ladies 2nds.

The home side put in a brave display and trailed by just 12-10 at the break.

But with just 12 players, Alcester tired late on allowing their visitors to pile on the points.
