A HIKE in the number of stray dogs reported across the district means two families per day, on average, are missing mutts.
During the Easter Bank Holiday, five strays were picked up by Wychavon District Council's dog warden.
And now pet owners are being urged to take action to make sure their furry friends don't wander.
The council claims having pets micro-chipped or putting collars with identity discs on them are just two measures which can be taken.
Dog warden Pip Singleton said: "We don't know whether it is because of the hot weather and more dogs going on outings which is responsible for the increase.
"It may be that families have new pets, which can be demanding, and are having trouble coping with them. In this case residents can call the council and we will put them in touch with charities which will take the dogs off their hands. Please don't just dump an unwanted pet."
