UNLOCKING the potential of the Droitwich Canals is the title of a business seminar being held in the town this Friday.
British Waterways is hosting the event on behalf of Droitwich Spa Association for Retail, Tourism and Services (DARTS) and the canals' restoration partnership.
It aims to inform local businesses and stakeholders about how the £9.5m rejuvenation of Droitwich Barge and Junction Canals will deliver widespread economic, social and environmental benefits.
British Waterways project manager James Thompson said: "The restoration of over seven miles of canal will create a 21 mile weekend cruising ring with the River Severn and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal.
"This will be unique in the United Kingdom and will help establish Droitwich as a prime visitor destination."
He expects the increase in tourism to unlock the potential for significant business and leisure development.
Presentations at the Raven Hotel will be lead by Town Mayor Terry Spencer, MP Peter Luff, DARTS chairman Richard Brighton and representatives from other organisations.
