Ludlow Town 1 Boldmere 0-
LUDLOW ended their season on a winning note to finish as Shropshire's highest placed team in a very competitive Midland Alliance League.
They immediately went on the attack and put their visitors under pressure. Moving the ball crisply they opened up the Boldmere defence with a well-executed move to open the scoring in the fifth minute.
A long ball from Steve Moore found David Andrewartha on the left. He immediately picked out Gareth Horler who beat two defenders before squaring the ball to Andy Blakeley, the striker hitting the target with a fierce, low drive.
This appeared to be the start of a goal spree, but although Ludlow were always in control and played some nice approach football, the final ball never quite produced the clear cut chances.
Youngster Sean Jones had another fine game and showed considerable maturity as Ludlow dominated the mid-field.
Ludlow should have extended their lead soon after the restart when Rob Vass played Horler through with a superb ball only for the speedy forward to be brought down by a cynical foul on the edge of the box.
Steve Moore nodded down Blakeley's free kick to Darryl Smith but the striker could only blast his shot over the bar.
The home defence took a firm grip on proceedings for the final quarter and Ludlow claimed their 12th league win of the season.
Commenting after the game Town's manager Les Bristow said: "It's been a hard season and we can now look forward to a break before we start building for next season and a return to the splendid new ground at Ludlow. It will be great for the club and the town."
