ALVECHURCH residents celebrated all that is English with a day of specially-organised events on St George's Day.
Activities kicked off on Wednesday with the unfurling on the St George's flag on St Laurence's Church tower and a morning of traditional English games, including egg and spoon races followed in the churchyard, where there was also a search for dragon's eggs.
Members of Alvechurch's three WIs served afternoon teas, cucumber sandwiches and cream scones in the village hall, to the sound of a Palm Court Music Group.
A service took place in the church where hymns, including Jerusalem, were sung and a social event was held at the village hall with fish and chips, English ale and wine.
Morris Men entertained in the evening, Alvechurch Dramatic Society members staged The Complete Works of William Shakespeare in 30 minutes and the day was rounded off with a Last Night of the Proms extravaganza.
