WORCESTER Cathedral has no plans to introduce an entrance fee.
This is the message from Janet Sinclair, the Cathedral's communication officer, following the recent decision by York Minster to charge for admission.
"The Cathedral did charge a fee about 10 or 20 years ago but we have no plans to do so now," she said.
"We do encourage people to make a donation.
"We believe if visitors have a good experience they will give more so we want them to have a nice time and spend more money in the Cathedral shop."
She said that since museums and galleries around the country have scrapped their admission charges because of Government funding their visitor numbers have gone up.
"I would be happy if the Government supported cathedrals, that would help to an extent but it is not something that is happening at present and I would be surprised if it did happen."
