THE report in your April 24 issue publicly exposes the hand of Wyre Forest District Council in their desire to do away with Stourport Civic Hall.

The comment by Andrew Dickens that Kidderminster Town Hall was "really the only suitable building we own" is nothing short of a confession.

I would like to remind everyone that in Stourport we have a ready-made theatrical centre in the Civic Centre. All it needs is a bit of imaginative thinking and some refurbishment.

The Civic Hall is the only theatrical building in the district of any reasonable size. It has useful changing rooms, there is a considerable area underneath the stage area that could be developed and to the rear of the building are extensive car parks.

The council also needs to understand that not all the performing arts require the same facilities. Kidderminster Town Hall, in its present form, is well suited to specific public events and should remain so.
