PERSHORE'S first blacksmith in 50 years has made his mark on the town by creating the gates for the new town hall walkway.
Steven Cooper was commissioned to make the gates following personal recommendations by a number of the town's councillors. Pershore-born Mr Cooper said: "From the age of 10 years old I wanted to be a blacksmith. I love my job - that is what is boils down to."
The gates, which took Mr Cooper and his team about four weeks to complete, have been themed on Pershore itself. The town's famous plum tree is depicted in a variety of materials.
The former firefighter now runs his own business at the Keytec 7 Business Park. He said: "Every time I go into town I slow down to have a look at the gates because they are such a beautiful feature."
Pershore town council clerk Ken Myers said: "It is nice that a local craftsman has been able to provide one of the centrepieces of the new walkway."
