BROADWAY'S Linda Carruthers came so close to winning the Gloucestershire Women's Championship at her first attempt.
Carruthers, who used to play for Surrey, was beaten by one hole in an exciting final by Rachael Rowntree (The Bristol) but her efforts earned her selection for the Gloucestershire squad for the Inter-county match at St Mellion on May 7-9.
Broadway and The Vale drew each other In the third round of the Mail on Sunday competition in what proved to be a tight contest.
In the last match out on the course and, with neither giving too much away, Denise Parker and Pat Mayo halved the 17th and 18th holes to halve their match leaving Broadway the overall winners 2-1.
