EVESHAM Swimming Club's Annual Biathlon was successfully held on Sunday when almost 200 competitors from around the Midlands and South West were in action.

It proved to be a successful event for the club's members who picked up ten of the individual and team trophies on offer.

Michelle Kimberley led the way in the ladies age 17 and over category winning the individual title for the second year in succession and also helping her team to victory alongside Holly Carter and Alison Usher. Kimberley recorded both the fastest swim and run times of the day, efforts that also secured the best overall female performance of the day.

Charlotte Turner won the girls aged 15/16 class, recording the fastest run time of the day.

Katie Scott and Lucy Grove both competed in the junior girls 13/14 class finishing 10th and 13th respectively.

Jessica Wheatley narrowly missed out on winning the junior girls aged 11/12 class finishing second by just 27 points after recording the fastest run time in her class. Justine Bennett finished 20th with Christine Foxall 23rd and Abigail Penrose 24th.

Stephanie Richardson just missed on a medal when finishing fourth in the junior girls aged 9/10 class with Elizabeth Hinsley right behind her in fifth and Colleen Penrose eighth.

This trio made up the Evesham Orcas who won the team trophy in their category.

Three members of the second Evesham team, Evesham Tardies, were Jorden Parsons (19th), Felicity Kent (23rd) and Katlin Donnahey (24th).

The minimus girls class saw another Evesham clean sweep with Tegan Parsons winning the individual trophy and together with teammates Bryony Nickson and Chantell Brooks the team trophy.

Parsons recorded the fastest run time in the class completing the 500m course in one minute and 55 seconds and for her efforts she also receives the Novice Cup which is presented to the Evesham SC member with the best performance in their first biathlon.

Michelle Dige, completing in the senior ladies class, took a clean sweep of the prizes finishing first overall, recording the fastest run and swim times in her class.

Adrian Mayhew and team Furryfish (James Fletcher, Paul Hoxey) took a clean sweep of the trophies and prizes in the men age 17 and over class. Mayhew recorded the best run time and Hoxey the best swim. Paul Hill finished a creditable fourth overall.

In the junior boys aged 11/12, Evesham's Callum Tustin managed to reduce his 100m personal best time by 18 seconds and then ran the second fastest run time of 3 minutes 38 seconds to finish ninth overall in a hotly contested class.

Evesham Eels won bronze in the team competition.

In the minimus boys class, James Bartram ran and swam well, just missing out on the medals.

Finally, in the veteran mens class and, much to his own embarrassment, club chairman Andrew Carter finished third overall.

The success of the event was again secured by the generosity of the sponsors and also thanks to the headmaster of Evesham High School and Wychavon Leisure for the use of their facilities.
