EVESHAM duathlete Michelle Parsons continued her fine early season form by confirming her selection for the Great Britain Age Group Team for the World Duathlon Championships in Switzerland in August.
She finished fifth overall and first in her age group at the Cambridge Duathlon last Sunday.
This result, coupled with her age group victory at the Powerman event in Derbyshire, also means that she leads her age group rankings in the British Triathlon Association's National Ranking Series.
Sunday's schedule consisted of a 6.5km run followed by a 30km bike ride finishing with a second run over the same distance.
Parsons was lying sixth overall and second in her age group race after the opening run.
The transition to the bike saw the Vale athlete consolidate her run position completing a wind affected bike section in the seventh fastest bike leg of the day of one hour seven minutes and 25 seconds.
It was the second run where Parsons showed her real strength as she produced the second fastest run split of the day of 27.50 to gain one place overall and most importantly clinch victory in her age group race.
Local triathlete Lee Perry has also been in action at the Mansfield Duathlon where, competing for the first time this season, he finished in an impressive third position.
After the first run he had maintained a position with the leaders and throughout the bike leg held his place despite difficult conditions.
The second run was Perry's strength as he picked off one of the leaders but couldn't quite reel in the front two athletes.
