HANLEY Swan residents awoke on Saturday morning to find a new addition to their village pond.
A black Audi 80 was driven into the water at 6am and remained there until the owner had it towed out at around 9.30am.
The female driver escaped from the vehicle and police say they will not investigate the incident further.
Alan Davies, owner of the Village Stores, near the pond, was told of the incident by his milkman.
"I couldn't believe it," he said. "It caused quite a commotion because it was early in the morning and everybody was starting their weekend."
Parish council chairman Sue Roberts said the number of cars driving into the water had been reduced in recent years, after the crossroads in the centre of the village was staggered.
