HERE we go again, the district council unable to make it's mind up where it's going.
Having demolished most of the architectural heritage of the town, it is begging small traders to save the rest. (Giving new life to empty shops, Shuttle Times and News, April 24)
I was not born in Kidderminster, but have lived here for 34 years. In this time I have seen council after council start projects, only to be unable to carry them through to their proper conclusion.
First there was the ring road, three-quarters finished, leaving homeowners under planning blight for years, before finally saying there will not be a fourth quarter.
The 40mph sign at Husum Way was not in the wrong place, despite public opinion to the contrary for years, until the police were allowed to profit from it being moved.
The Glades "nipple roof" went way over budget and schedule, but when they wanted to extend, then an aircraft hangar will do.
Sainsbury's were told their store (formerly off Market Street) had to fit in with the library opposite and surrounding buildings, so that's how it was built, only for the library to be demolished and replaced with a soulless box.
Weavers Wharf appears to be another conveyor belt monstrosity, on a par with Crown House, a building that should never have seen the light of day in the first place, and should be top of the list for levelling.
I realise the council is starved of cash, but to continually give in to the developer's pound, is killing the town, and we still do not have a cinema.
Please keep on publishing the Forest Flashback photos. Although it is frustrating to see what used to be, at least it reminds me of the town with a heart I once knew.
